A recent study commissioned by the Canadian province’s gambling regulator, AGCO, revealed that over 85% of local players enjoy the pastime on a regulated casino site.

The survey was conducted just before Ontario’s regulated gambling market turned one year old and showed that the province has managed to make significant progress in migrating Ontarian gamblers to regulated wagering and gambling operators.

Conducted by Ipsos Group, the survey found that around 85.3% of participants who gambled online at least once in the past quarter of a year enjoyed the pastime at a regulated and fully licensed gambling business. At the time of the market’s opening, under 30% of gambling activities in the province occurred on regulated websites, which makes the sector’s progress quite impressive.

The Chief Executive Officer and Registrar of the AGCO, Tom Mungham, remarked:

“One of the most important targets for us in the first year of Ontario’s regulated market was to help players make the transition to enjoying the pastime on regulated gambling websites that provide a high standard of protection and fairness in accordance to our established laws. We still have quite a lot of work ahead of us, however, we have made significant progress in the period which we are quite pleased with.”

In its first year of fully regulated gambling, the province also made progress in terms of certifying games and licensing operators, as there are currently 45 authorized gambling businesses and over 5 thousand approved games available in Ontario.
