Arizona sends cease-and-desist orders to 5 illegal operators
The Arizona Department of Gaming (ADG) has launched enforcement action against 5 iGaming operators and sent cease-and-desist orders to all of them for offering and promoting illegal gambling activities.
The 5 operators targeted by the gambling regulator are Bookmaker, Club WPT Online Poker, BetOpenly, Kutt Inc., and Raffle Creator, which have been accused of running unlicensed gambling operations, offering gambling products to underage users, and potentially engaging in money laundering. Under the cease-and-desist order, the companies were ordered to stop their operations and avoid conducting similar activities in the future.
Director of the ADG, Jackie Johnson, commented:
“Arizona is taking decisive action against illegal gambling operators that put Arizonans at risk. Our top priority is protecting Arizonans, and I’m grateful for the efforts of our intelligence unit led by chief law enforcement officer Doug Jensen to do just that. Through these cease-and-desist orders, we are putting operators on notice: their conduct runs contrary to Arizona law, and they must stop promoting illegal gambling.”
Addressing each non-compliant operator, it was revealed that Bookmaker promoted horse racing, sports betting, and online casino games without a license; BetOpenly offered peer-to-peer sports betting and daily fantasy contests without approval; and Club WPT Online Poker allowed minors to take part in pay-to-play tournaments. Kutt Inc. was called out for offering bets on sports, pop culture, and politics, despite clear state bans on bets tied to such events, with Raffle Creator selling tickets to minors and failing to meet requirements for conducting regulated raffles.
The regulatory body also stressed that failure to comply with the state laws could lead to further legal action against the operators, with residents urged to only gamble with licensed operators in Arizona.
