Casino Guru Academy has introduced Advanced Insights: Self-Exclusion Best Practice, a new training course created in collaboration with experts from BetBlocker International.

Designed for iGaming operators, the course offers practical guidance on strengthening self-exclusion processes and improving support for players at risk of gambling-related harm.

As one of the most important tools for safer gambling, self-exclusion is mandatory in many regulated markets. Yet the way it is implemented differs widely across jurisdictions and operators. These inconsistencies can leave gaps in player protection while adding complexity for operators responsible for managing the process.

Casino Guru Academy developed the course to help operators address these challenges. It offers a practical framework for reviewing existing self-exclusion policies, improving current processes, or building new systems from the ground up. To help put these recommendations into practice, the course also includes a step-by-step 30-day implementation plan.

The training is based on the Recommended Code of Practice for Online Self-Exclusion, published in 2025. The code was developed by Dr. Margaret Carran in partnership with Casino Guru and a working group of 10 iGaming industry professionals.

Šimon Vincze, the Head of Safer and Sustainable Gaming at Casino Guru, says:

“We wanted to give operators guidance they can actually use. To be clear, we don’t aim to replace local regulation or create a rigid global rulebook. We want to spread the findings on what self-exclusion best practice looks like and how operators can adapt it to fit their market, teams, and players.”

Further focusing on a multi-layered approach to player protection, the course shows that self-exclusion is most effective when combined with other tools and services, such as blocking software, helplines, treatment programs, and additional safer gambling resources.

Part of the course was developed directly with BetBlocker International, a free gambling-blocking tool, to explain how blocking software can support self-exclusion and help prevent vulnerable players from gambling.

Pedro Romero, the CEO of BetBlocker International comments on the work:

“This course will help operators committed to player protection understand how to provide additional safeguards when a player decides to self-exclude. Self-exclusion should be supported by clear signposting to support services and practical blocking tools, which can play an important role in helping people maintain their decision across operators, whether they want to minimize harm or stop completely. BetBlocker International exists to make those protections free, anonymous and accessible to anyone who needs them.

Supporting Casino Guru Academy’s goal to present iGaming professionals with valuable free education, the newly launched of Advanced Insights: Self-Exclusion Best Practice course is now available through the Casino Guru Academy website. It will also be presented at iGB L!VE London 2026, one of the major events for the global iGaming industry.
