Colombia got rid of more than 2000 illegal gaming products
The Colombian gambling regulator, Coljuegos, has destroyed more than 2,000 illegal gaming products worth COP445 million (£81,053).
Coljuegos is the state-authorised regulator of Colombia in terms of both land-based and online gambling. The company prevented almost COP78.4m (£14,280) from being transferred to Colombia’s health system.
From the total 2,042 destroyed items, 1,852 were taken during inspections by Coljuegos since October 2023, and 190 were stopped in 2022. These items included electronic slot machines, roulette wheels, chairs, and bingo boards.
Marco Emilio Hincapié, president of Coljuegos, said:
“We are hitting hard those who operate betting without paying health taxes. The equipment was removed from areas such as Atlántico, Bolívar, Cesar, Magdalena, Antioquia, Huila, and Tolima—hotbeds of illegality in areas where there was previously no control.”
Social media platforms, such as ticket machines, televisions, online betting modules, code readers, and CPUs, were also destroyed.
