On March 23, 2026, the Minister of Finance of Brazil, Dario Durigan, announced that Daniele Cardoso will permanently take on the role of the leader of the Secretariat of Prizes and Bets (SPA) after two months in the interim position.

She first joined SPA in 2024 as its general coordinator of responsible gambling monitoring, after which she became deputy secretary. In these roles, she supervised compliance activities for the sports betting industry.

Then, on January 29, 2026, when Regis Dudena, Brazil’s Secretary of Prizes and Betting, left his position, Cardoso was appointed as interim chief.

Regarding her background, Cardoso holds a law degree from the State University of Feira de Santana and also has a postgraduate specialization in State Law. Prior to joining the SPA, she worked at the Instituto Brasileiro do Meio Ambiente in the human resource management sector and at the Secretaria Nacional do Consumidor in the national consumer protection systems.

Durigan commented on the wider appointments:

“I am pleased to share updates about the Ministry of Finance team. Nobody works alone. We are a serious, united, and technical Ministry. Women and men who are committed to making a difference every day, working for the prosperity of Brazilian families.”

The SPA plays an important role in improving Brazil’s economic and regulatory environment, especially for formalizing regulations for sports betting.
