Dave Whimpey appointed interim CEO of the Star Brisbane
The Star Entertainment Group has announced that Dave Whimpey will take the role of Chief Operating Officer and interim Chief Executive Officer as part of a restructuring process in the group’s integrated resorts.
The appointment of Whimpey as CEO is supposed to be a strategic move to improve governance and operational supervision in order to meet commercial goals and regulatory expectations. His 25-year-long career in gaming and hospitality with roles at Tabcorp, Jupiter’s Casino, and Brisbane Racing Club has positioned him to lead the Star Brisbane.
Whimpey commented:
“I’m excited to be joining The Star at such a pivotal time as the business embarks on a new era focused on rebuilding, revitalisation, and restoring confidence. There is a significant opportunity ahead, and I’m committed to working closely with the refreshed Board, management, and our professional Team Members to contribute positively to the city’s future and the communities we are part of.”
The leadership change comes with broader governance challenges for the group, as a court ruled that the former Star CEO and lawyer had broken the law during an investigation launched by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC).
On December 29, 2025, Star Entertainment Group announced leadership changes, with CFO Frank Krile and COO Jeannie Mok stepping down from their positions in January 2026.
