Detroit casinos report strong May 2024 income
For May 2024, the three casinos in Detroit reported a combined monthly income of $113.2 million.
Of this, $111.3 million came from slot machines and table games, up 3.2% from the previous month and 6.3% from the year before.
Through the month, the three casinos paid the state of Michigan nine million dollars in gaming taxes, in addition to $13.2 million in wagering taxes and payments to the City of Detroit under development agreements.
The market shares for May were as follows: 46% for MGM, 31% for MotorCity, and 23% for Hollywood Casino at Greektown.
Retail sports betting accounted for $1.9 million of the total income. The casinos declared that they had handled $11.1 million in retail sports bets. The state received $70,261 in gaming taxes from the casinos, and the City of Detroit received $85,874 in wagering taxes from them.
