DraftKings faces a new scandal over mistakenly sent emails
Instead of sending bonus bet emails to only 13 bettors, DraftKings mistakenly sent the email to almost 1 million users, including those suffering from problem gambling.
DraftKings Inc. is an American gambling company. Based in Boston, Massachusetts, it offers sportsbook and daily fantasy sports services.
In mid-August, DraftKings sent out an email about PGA Tour golf bets, causing confusion and amusement among recipients. The confusion comes from the incompliance of the rules that DraftKings’ was supposed to follow and send the emails only to those who have made wagers on golf using the online sportsbook.
However, DraftKings sent emails to almost 1 million users, including those who have never used DraftKing’s and don’t have any accounts on the platform. The issue became more serious when it was revealed that 184 people on the voluntary self-exclusion list who have quit gambling due to addiction also received the email.
This mistake raised concerns about triggering their gambling urges. The Massachusetts Gaming Commission is investigating how this error happened and what penalties DraftKings might face.
This is not the only actual issue connected to DraftKings. Recently, on August 20, the company received a lawsuit from NFLPA over NFTs.
