After following intelligence reports about foreigners operating illegal online services, Thai immigration police have detained five Indian nationals suspected of operating an online gambling website in Pattaya.

Thailand had recently formed a special task force to identify financial transactions linked to online gambling and scams, as Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas mentioned that the task force would collaborate with other agencies to find illegal money movement.

The police identified five men between the ages of 24 and 39 during the raid, additionally, they recovered 3 laptops, 22 phones, one tablet, and credit cards with around $54,000. It’s suspected that the offenders were targeting foreign customers, and the police are now investigating whether the group processed payments, verified customers, or managed inquiries for offshore gambling operators.

Although the five Indians initially denied involvement, they later gave conflicting statements and mentioned working as online administrators but refused to reveal details. It’s suspected that they could be part of a larger group of offshore gambling platforms that operate in Thailand.

The police are now investigating the seized materials and warn that more charges may come once the digital evidence is assessed. Thai authorities are trying to strengthen efforts against illegal gambling by targeting offshore administrative operations.

Arrests around the gambling market have become more common. In other news, South Korea’s gambling probe made 5,196 arrests, recovering $123.5 billion
