KSA fights against illegal gambling affiliates

The Kansspelautoriteit has published the results of its investigations into affiliates promoting illegal gambling.

Throughout the last year, the Kansspelautoriteit carried out two investigations into the promotion of unauthorized gambling offerings through a variety of affiliate websites. The regulator mentioned that these websites enticed their readers to gamble on illegal websites and targeted gambling enthusiasts who had registered with the country’s self-exclusion initiative to control their gambling behaviors. These two investigations covered 33 gambling affiliate websites and revealed that 14 of them were violating the country’s gambling regulations.

The first of the Kansspelautoriteit’s investigations covered gambling websites that predominantly targeted vulnerable players. The regulator investigated numerous popular affiliate companies and found four of them to be violating its gambling laws. The Kansspelautoriteit mentioned that it was not able to identify the owners of the violating firms, which has led the authority to initiate another investigation to counter these websites.

The regulator’s second investigation, on the other hand, focused on untargeted advertisements and was initiated by the Kansspelautoriteit after the passing of the new Dutch laws prohibiting untargeted gambling promotions across the country. The regulator suspected that after the implementation of the ban, illegal operators would begin trying to take advantage of the reduced visibility of regulated firms. The Kansspelautoriteit found 10 violating websites, 5 of which stopped advertising illegal offers following the threat of a penalty from the regulator. The 5 other violating firms, on the other hand, are still being investigated by the KSA.

Furthermore, the authority’s second investigation also revealed a total of 7 illegal online casinos were being advertised by the affiliates. The Kansspelautorieit mentioned that it has already initiated the process of sanctioning these businesses.
