KSA publishes update on its actions against illegal gambling
The Kansspelautoriteit has recently published a report on its enforcement actions in the first half of the year.
The report started off by mentioning the regulator’s issued penalties to unauthorized operators, of which there were three in the first half of the year. The Kansspelautoriteit added that in most cases illegal operators would cease offering unauthorized gambling services in the country after receiving a warning from the regulator, however, that was not the case with the aforementioned three companies.
Illegal gambling advertisements were covered next, with the regulatory authority launching investigations into eight companies for suspected breaches of the Dutch gambling advertising laws. The Kansspelautoriteit stated that four of those firms have already been found to be in violation of certain laws and that it is preparing to issue penalties to them in the near future.
Furthermore, the regulator also has conducted an additional 32 investigations into illegal gambling offerings advertised on various social media platforms, namely Facebook and Instagram, which it has been able to take down with the help of the two social networks’ parent corporation, Meta.
The authority also started investigating unauthorized gambling firms offering cryptocurrencies as payment methods in the period, through which it was able to issue orders to six illegal operators to exit the Dutch market.
Lastly, the Kansspelautoriteit also mentioned its involvement in helping local police take down unauthorized retail gambling operations, with the regulator assisting with 42 cases in the first half of the year.
