LeoVegas Names Mattias Wedar as New CEO

Swedish iGaming company LeoVegas has announced the appointment of Mattias Wedar as the new CEO, following the departure of co-founder Gustaf Hagman, who led LeoVegas for 14 years.

With the help of Gustaf Hagman, the company LeoVegas became one of Europe’s top online casinos. Under his leadership, the company expanded across Europe, adjusted to new gambling regulations in Sweden, and was acquired by U.S. casino giant MGM Resorts in 2022.

Recently, LeoVegas has entered the German market, bought game studio Push Gaming, and acquired U.S. operator Tipico. In April 2025, it also opened a second UK office in Leeds.

Reflecting on his journey, Hagman wrote:

“When we launched in Sweden in 2012, the industry was in its infancy, and we were sailing in uncharted waters. With a strong team, great commitment, and a fantastic corporate culture, we navigated the course successfully and managed to become one of the leading international players – it is truly impressive. Now, as part of the MGM family, LeoVegas Group is now stronger than ever, and it is the right strategic moment to pass the baton to Mattias Wedar.”

Wedar, who has been with LeoVegas for six years, was previously deputy CEO and Chief Product & Technology Officer. Before that, he was CEO at gaming software company Gametek.

Wedar commented on his appointment:

“I’m honored to take on this role. LeoVegas has a strong foundation and many exciting opportunities ahead. I look forward to leading us into this next chapter.”

The leadership change comes at a key moment as LeoVegas continues to grow globally under MGM’s ownership.
