The leagues announced the campaign on October 13, 2026, together with the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG), which is set to run during the 2026-27 NBA season and mainly targets young adults. A new video spot will air on social media and TV through NBA and WNBA channels and partner channels, with the message that fans put their money at risk whether they place a bet or trade on a prediction market, no matter how much they know about sports. The leagues have also stated that these activities should be treated as entertainment, not as a way to earn income.
Scott Kaufman-Ross, NBA Head of Media Distribution and Partnerships, commented:
“As the ways people engage with sports continue to evolve, it is important that fans understand the risks associated with putting money on sports outcomes. Through this campaign, we want to help fans make informed decisions, understand the risk and, if they choose to bet, trade or anything similar, that they do so responsibly.”
Fans who choose to take part are urged to understand the risks, set limits on time and money, avoid risking money they can’t afford to lose, and ask for help if they struggle to stay in control. The campaign points people to ResponsiblePlay.org and to the National Problem Gambling Helpline at 1-800-MY-RESET.
Currently, the NBA already runs responsible gaming education with the NCPG, and this campaign extends it to WNBA fans.
