Powerball Lottery player wins $1.8B on Christmas Eve drawing
On December 24, 2025, an Arkansas player won the $1.8 billion Powerball Lottery during the Christmas Eve drawing, making it the second-largest lottery windfall in U.S. history.
The winning ticket holder will have two options to receive the prize. The first choice is to get an annuitized prize of $1.8 billion, and in this case, the player will get one immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments that increase by 5% every year. For the second option, the winner can receive a lump sum payment of $834.9 million before taxes.
Matt Strawn, Powerball product group chair and Iowa Lottery CEO, said:
“Congratulations to the newest Powerball jackpot winner! This is truly an extraordinary, life-changing prize. We also want to thank all the players who joined in this jackpot streak. Every ticket purchased helps support public programs and services across the country.”
Powerball’s odds are 1 in 292.2 million, which are specifically designed to generate huge jackpots by letting prize pools grow through repeated rollovers. The game is available in 45 states, and each ticket costs just $2.
According to Powerball, the last time someone won a Powerball jackpot on Christmas Eve was in 2011.
