SkyCity faces class action lawsuit for player losses

SkyCity Entertainment is facing a U.S.-funded class action lawsuit connected to player losses in its Malta-operated SkyCity Online casino, with the legal action mentioning SkyCity Entertainment Group, SkyCity Auckland Holdings, and Silvereye Entertainment as involved parties in the case.

The claim aims to challenge the legality of the online gambling activities offered by the SkyCity Online platform through its offshore Malta license, with plaintiffs looking to proceed with legal action that covers player losses between February 2020 and February 2026.

SkyCity has formally rejected the allegations and denied any liability arising from the claims, and the operator added that it will actively defend the proceedings.

SkyCity wrote in a statement:

“SkyCity Entertainment Group Limited (SkyCity) advises that it has received notice of proceedings against SkyCity, SkyCity Auckland Holdings Limited, and Silvereye Entertainment Limited… The proceedings include an application for leave to bring the proceedings as a funded class action in respect of gambling monies lost to SkyCity Online between February 2020 and February 2026.”

SkyCity clarified that Silvereye Entertainment conducts its online casino operations, which is an overseas subsidiary that has worked under a Maltese license since 2021, while the online platform is supplied and managed by Gaming Innovation Group and other third parties, rather than by SkyCity itself.
