Spelinspektionen to work with Swedish financial authority

The Swedish government has recently announced that the Spelinspektionen and the country’s financial regulator will be collaborating closely to fight against illegal gambling.

The gambling authority will strengthen its working relationship with the Swedish financial regulator, Finansinspektionen, in a bid to fight against unauthorized operators by blocking their transactions.

The Spelinspektionen’s General Director, Camilia Rosenberg, commented:

“Through our strengthened collaboration with the Finansinspektionen, we will be able to better tackle unauthorized gambling operators through their transactions, which will help us to further enhance our player protections and ensure the safety of our players.”

This latest announcement was originally introduced as a bill as part of the Swedish government’s recent enhancements to the gambling authority, through which the Spelinspektionen got a boost of 2.4 million krona (230 thousand dollars) in its funding about a month ago.

The regulator’s funding was expanded as part of the Swedish parliament’s spring budget, with one of the main goals being to help the Spelinspektionen process the increasing number of authorization applications. The regulator’s new powers will enable it to better tackle unauthorized gambling operators and enhance its protections for local players.
