Member of Parliament for Lewisham North, Vicky Foxcroft, has been appointed as the newest Gambling Minister in the United Kingdom, replacing former Minister Baroness Fiona Twycross, who had served in the role since 2024.
Although neither the government nor the Department for Culture, Media, and Sport (DCMS) has officially announced the appointment, the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) has shared a statement congratulating Foxcroft on her new position.
CEO of the BGC, Grainne Hurst, wrote:
“I would like to congratulate Vicky Foxcroft MP on her appointment as Minister responsible for gambling. We look forward to working with her to champion Britain’s casinos, betting shops and online betting, gaming and bingo businesses – an industry that brings enjoyment to millions of people, sustains 109,000 jobs, contributes billions of pounds to the economy and provides vital funding for some of Britain’s best-loved sports.”
Foxcroft has been a Member of Parliament since 2015 and served as shadow minister managing the DCMS in 2019, where she contributed to multiple gambling reforms. Earlier in her career, Foxcroft has spoken out against gambling advertising in live sports and the use of credit cards to fund betting. One of the biggest gambling initiatives that Foxcroft participated in was her decision to sign the Early Day Motion, which proposed to eliminate “aim to permit” gambling licensing.
