300 illegal betting sites to be shut down in Buenos Aires

The Provincial Institute of Lottery and Casinos of Buenos Aires has submitted a complaint against 300 illegal betting websites over concerns that the platforms are part of a larger coordinated criminal structure.

A cyber-patrolling operation was conducted, where analysts tracked the digital infrastructure and evasion techniques that the illegal platforms used. These websites often change domain names and move servers across jurisdictions, making it hard to locate them.

One of the biggest reasons behind the complaints is the involvement of minors in illegal betting.

President of the Institute, Gonzalo Atanasof, said:

When we talk about teenagers betting, then we must address the problem from two viewpoints: mental health and security. These illegal casinos operate without any kind of supervision and let minors in with complete freedom. Kids today are just one click away because these platforms let them in.”

Additionally, the investigation has requested that ENACOM, the national regulator of communications, block access to all 300 sites throughout the country. Similar measures in the past have led to 120 complaints and 50 search operations that helped knock down many criminal organizations.

Authorities believe illegal gambling is not simply a local issue but rather a national one. In order to fight it, they need updated tools and collaborative oversight.
