Apple’s new App Store rules to allow betting apps in Brazil

On May 8, Apple updated its App Store policy to allow SPA-regulated betting companies to offer applications featuring fixed-odds betting options in Brazil.

Apple’s decision comes after Brazil launched regulated iGaming in the country and started letting sports betting brands offer their services, as the move complies with Brazil’s gambling regulations and is expected to generate notable revenues for Apple and the developers that offer betting applications.

Apple explained the licensing process:

A new app version must be submitted to initiate the license verification process. Updating the App Review Information section in App Store Connect alone won’t start a review. When submitting a new version of your app for review: 1) Include your license information in the App Review Information section in App Store Connect, 2) Enter your license details in the Notes field, 3) Attach any supporting documents using the file attachment field.”

Apple has additionally warned developers to make sure that their apps follow 18+ age restrictions and gambling risk requirements, as well as include necessary disclosures and warnings.

Applications will then be reviewed according to the App Review process, in order to ensure compliance with consumer safety and gambling harm risk standards.
