The Dutch Lottery, Nederlandse Loterij, has launched legal action against unlicensed gambling operator Skyhills, accusing the company of offering illegal gambling products to local users.
As stated in the case, the Dutch Lottery has argued that Skyhills doesn’t hold a Dutch license and is operated by a Curaçao-based company but continues to allow players from the Netherlands to access its platform. Additionally, the state lottery has found that other parties related to Skyhills’ operation are based in Costa Rica, Malta, North Macedonia, and the Marshall Islands.
The CEO of the Dutch Lottery, Arjan Blok, stated:
“Player protection is paramount at Nederlandse Loterij. Skyhills is using devious advertising, including on TikTok, to explicitly target Dutch players and especially young people. They can gamble there completely unprotected, with all the associated risks. That is unacceptable. Therefore, it is good to see that after our first step, the Skyhills site went offline immediately.”
The lawsuit has asked the court to order Skyhills to stop its operations in the country, with the Dutch Lottery stressing that the illegal operator’s activities damage licensed gambling companies.
Additionally, the action against Skyhills isn’t the first lawsuit launched by the Dutch Lottery, as the state-owned company had previously targeted Qbet and Lalabet with civil action.
