bet365 to be officially launched in Illinois
The Illinois Gaming Board has officially welcomed the UK-based gaming company bet365 to the state’s sports betting providers’ list.
Sports betting was legalized in Illinois back in March 2020. Since then, the state has granted sports betting licenses to 16 companies and recorded $41.3 billion in handle and $3.4 billion in revenue.
The 15th company to secure the license in Illinois was bet365, making the state the 12th one where its operations are available. Over the past year, the company expanded into five new states just before the NFL season. Since then, it has launched in another six, strengthening its reach in states like Arizona, Colorado, and Pennsylvania.
Gambling in Illinois
The gambling market in Illinois is thriving. Recently, Governor JB Pritzker introduced a new tax system for sports betting, ranging from 20% to 40%. The new tax system comes together with new advertising rules that aim to promote responsible gambling practices in the state.
DraftKings dominates the Illinois sports betting market with more than $4 billion in bets. The second place is secured by FanDuel with $3.7 billion. BetRivers is the last one in the list of top three operators with $686 million.
Online casino gambling is still illegal in the state, but changes do not remain behind. Lawmakers are trying their best to push forward, highlighting that Illinois’s gambling market might see even bigger changes soon.
