Betfair resumes gambling advertisements in the UK

The UK’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has cleared a Betfair radio ad of any regulatory violations following a formal investigation.

The ad was published on Radio X on September 3, 2024, and promoted Betfair’s Prize Pinball game. Public concerns arose from the potential violation of targeting underage groups. Betfair confirmed that before going live, the Radiocenter had pre-approved the ad. Moreover, the company also claimed that Radio X’s target audience primarily consists of 25 to 44-year-olds, and it is less likely to target minors.

The ASA’s investigation focused on whether Betfair violated BCAP Code Rules 32.3 (Scheduling) and 1.2 (Social Responsibility). The authority concluded that Betfair did not violate anything and worked in compliance with regulatory standards.

 The ASA explained:

“We investigated the ad under BCAP Code Rules 1.2 (Social Responsibility) and 32.3 (Scheduling) but did not find it in breach.”

This decision underscores the importance of responsible advertising in gambling and highlights the ASA’s role in ensuring companies like Betfair adhere to advertising standards.
