Betsson moves into Kenyan sports betting market

Popular gaming operator Betsson announced its expansion into the Kenyan sports betting market with its Betsafe brand. This recent move will be operated by a Kenyan company Bet High, who is currently getting ready to enter a joint venture agreement with the Betsson Group. The company is licensed by the Betting Control and Licensing Board.

This brand new Betsafe system allows players to make wagers in many different ways. Players will now be offered the option to place bets through the website or through SMS messaging. There are already plans to add in new functions using the Telegram instant messaging service. This recent venture will also be creating numerous job opportunities within the Kenyan market. The main goal is to employ a minimum of 150 people locally over the next two years.

Furthermore, the operator wants to make sure that the regulator’s objectives for responsible gambling are upheld, and that local football talent can be developed and nurtured.

Commenting on the news, Alex Kobia, BetHigh’s acting managing director, said: “Our Responsible gaming program is unlike any other in this market with the safety of the Kenyan sports betting fans in mind. Our online site contains unique control and safety features directly on the site. Our communication will initially be focused on responsible gaming messages and we will furthermore support Gamehelp, an organisation that supports Kenyans with gaming problem behaviour. We are also the first gaming company to hire a Responsible Gaming Officer who will be dedicated to pursue and improve us in this area.”
