Boyd Gaming returns to New Jersey
Boyd Gaming expands its footprint in New Jersey with the acquisition of Resorts Digital.
Boyd Gaming is a major US hotel and casino operator. The company will expand its presence with Resorts Digital, which is the online branch of Atlantic City’s Resorts Casino. Through this acquisition, signed on September 1, Boyd Gaming will gain the ownership of ResortsCasino.com and MoheganSunCasino.com. Boyd Gaming launched its digital platform, Boyd Interactive, in 2021, and this acquisition is seen as part of its broader strategy to grow its iGaming operations.
Resorts Digital has been performing exceptionally well, generating over $573 million in revenue during the first eight months of 2024. Additionally, Resorts Digital’s operating profit rose by 5.6% in the first half of the year, whereas the physical casino’s profit fell by 89%.
However, after this acquisition, Resorts Digital will continue operating under its existing sports betting and online gambling licenses, maintaining key partnerships with prominent names like DraftKings, ESPN BET, and PokerStars.
Boyd Gaming’s return to New Jersey
Boyd Gaming exited the New Jersey market by selling its shares in Borgata Casino to MGM Resorts in 2016. However, this acquisition marks the company’s return to the state. While the purchase price remains unknown, this move is part of Boyd’s long-term strategy to expand its online gambling presence.
