Brazil’s police arrest Brabet owner in gambling fraud scheme
Brazilian police have arrested Alberth Cesar Janjon, the owner and administrator of the Brabet betting platform, over connections to an illegal gambling scheme that operated in multiple states.
The arrest was conducted by the Civil Police and took place on May 21, 2026, in a Nova Campinas neighborhood apartment, with authorities revealing that Janjon was charged under a preventive arrest warrant. Additionally, the police seized cell phones, credit cards, luxury handbags, more than 10 watches, and two luxury cars.
The case builds on an investigation into illegal gambling websites that used influencers and bloggers to attract people to the platforms, promising them guaranteed wins. The police believe the gambling scheme operated in São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso, Santa Catarina, Ceará, and Bahia.
Janjon’s defense team shared in a statement:
“The defense informs that this is a case originating from the interior of Ceará, investigating alleged payments made to influencers for the promotion of platforms known as ‘Jogo do Tigrinho’ and other games of chance. The defense argues that pretrial detention is entirely inappropriate and disproportionate. The suspect is a businessman, has a fixed address, a known legitimate business activity, and has provided proof of the origin and acquisition of the seized assets.”
As part of the enforcement action, the criminal network’s leader was also arrested at the Guarulhos International Airport as he was trying to exit Brazil.
Detective Sandro Jonasson from the Narcotics Investigation Division (Dise) of Campinas commented:
“This individual flaunted an extremely high standard of living, without an established income, without a credible financial background.”
At the same time, authorities are still trying to identify whether the influencers and bloggers promoting the fake websites received any fixed compensation for their publications. As the investigations continue, the police are in the process of finding other members of the illegal operation in order to establish the scheme’s full scope.
