Brazil’s SPA joins forces with Conar to tighten gaming ad regulations

Brazil’s Secretariat of Prizes and Bets (SPA) has teamed up with the country’s advertising regulator to step up its fight against unlicensed betting and gaming operators.

Under the agreement with the Brazilian Advertising Self-Regulation Council (Conar), the focus will be on swift identification of ads that violate the rules.

Regis Dudena, who heads up the SPA, part of Brazil’s Ministry of Finance, commented:

“We know that advertising plays a central role in how society perceives and accesses betting and commercial promotions. For this reason, we cannot allow messages from illegal operators, or those that mislead, encourage harmful practices and even less those that reach vulnerable audiences, such as children and adolescents.”

The partnership will also see the launch of educational and informational initiatives, with both sides sharing data and monitoring practices to track repeat violations and strengthen enforcement.

Conar president Sergio Pompilio said:

“The combination of regulatory and self-regulatory efforts has been consolidating as a modern and sought-after approach in most countries, and it is essential for addressing upcoming challenges, especially in impactful segments like betting.

We are confident that this partnership will further strengthen the commitment to socially responsible advertising and will contribute to a future of responsible and sustainable innovation.”

According to both SPA and Conar, the collaboration will also include awareness campaigns on responsible gaming, placing particular focus on safeguarding children and young adults.
