The secretariat of Cambodia’s anti-scam commission said inspectors confirmed that 12 casinos in Preah Sihanouk province, 7 in Banteay Meanchey, and 5 in Svay Rieng ended livestreamed gaming, football betting, online lotteries, and “sporting bird” competitions. Aside from stopping the activity, the casinos are reported to have physically removed the studios and terminals used to stream games and take bets from players outside the building.
For context, Cambodia stopped issuing online gambling licenses back in 2019, but some casinos kept exploiting gaps to keep running the activity, and the latest order was meant to shut them down.
The secretariat shared:
“All online gambling or online betting in every form, both inside and outside casino premises, is absolutely prohibited. If violations are found, action will be taken, without exception or leniency.”
The commission said all online gambling or betting will now be banned everywhere in the country, and that it will keep monitoring sites nationwide to identify non-compliance. Additionally,Prime Minister Hun Manet said that the shutdown is permanent, not a temporary measure.
The statement didn’t say how many casinos were running online operations before the deadline, so it’s unclear whether 24 represents full compliance or just a part of it. It also runs alongside a separate crackdown on scam-linked casinos, under which Cambodian authorities have already revoked 18 licenses and suspended nine more during 2026.
