Catena Media officially departs from the esports market
One of the most famous names in affiliate marketing, Catena Media, has officially announced the sale of its sports.net and esportsbet.com to an unnamed buyer.
The sale follows Catena’s 25% workforce cut and paused interest payments due to financial struggles. When talking about 2024, the company described it as a year of strategic change. However, the company’s recent actions show that there is still transformation going on. Now, Catena Media wants to shift its focus to products that bring more profit.
The company’s CEO, Manuel Stan, explained:
“In alignment with our strategy to focus on doing fewer things better, today we have agreed to the sale of our top esports products — esports.net and esportsbets.com. The sale will be effective immediately. For the team working directly with the esports products – you have built a segment-leading product that millions of customers have enjoyed throughout the years, and this is a great testament to your drive, passion, and expertise.”
The general manager for esports and emerging markets in Asia Pacific, Gianfranco Capozzi, commented on the news:
“While I’m grateful for everything I’ve learnt, it is also sad to see this chapter coming to an end. But change brings new energy, and for now, I’m taking a short break to decompress, reflect, and prepare for what’s next.”
Whether Catena will benefit from this move or not will show in the future.
