On August 10, 2026, the Court of Appeals of Santiago announced the establishment of a new mechanism through which Chile’s telecom providers will be ordered to apply DNS blocking on unlicensed gambling websites.
The decision is based on a prior Supreme Court ruling, as the new measure is expected to serve as an appropriate technical solution for the court’s order regarding the promotion and transmission of online gambling services.
Under the 5-step initiative, authorities will identify, verify, and block URLs connected to illegal gambling services, and either the Lotería de Concepción or the Polla Chilena de Beneficencia will be responsible for reporting the unlicensed websites to Chile’s Superintendency of Casinos. After this, the regulator will be able to decide which of the URLs are classified as illegal gambling.
The court ruling stated:
“The appellant or supporting third party shall inform the SCJ of the domains, subdomains, redirects or derived websites that it considers associated with the websites covered by the ruling and which, in its view, fail to comply with the order.”
The President of the Polla Chilena de Beneficencia, Felipe Dalgalarrando, added:
“The decision gives authorities and telecom companies a simpler process to implement the Supreme Court ruling.”
However, the organization representing online gambling interests in Chile, aPAL, spoke out against the decision, arguing that the court extended its powers beyond the scope of the original dispute.
