Chile’s Subsecretariat of Telecommunications (Subtel) has ordered internet providers to block 42 online gambling websites that operate without licenses through DNS blocking.
The order follows a ruling by Chile’s Supreme Court in a case brought by Lotería de Concepción against online gambling platforms and telecommunications companies, with Subtel now having instructed providers like Entel, Claro, GTD, Movistar, WOM, and VTR to implement the blocks within 48 hours.
Romina Garrido, Subtel Undersecretary, commented:
“As Subtel, we are strictly complying with the rulings of the courts and the regulatory framework, deploying an efficient and coordinated technical solution that protects people’s digital security. With this order, we are requiring telecommunications companies to act with the utmost speed to block access to online casino platforms operating outside the law.”
The list of the operators includes multiple major international brands, including Betano, 1xBet, Betsson, Stake, bet365, Melbet, and Betcris, as well as other platforms like Coolbet, JugaBet, Rojabet, Latamwin, and Estelarbet.
The Superintendency of Casinos (SCJ) was responsible for submitting the illegal websites to Subtel, as the SCJ was tasked with reviewing and validating the platforms before they were required to be blocked. The process of identifying unlicensed websites also covers new domains, subdomains, and mirror sites connected to the targeted operators.
