Coinbase has missed revenue expectations by generating $1.4 billion in Q1 2026, representing a 31% drop year-on-year.

Net losses for the quarter amounted to $394 million, while consumer transaction revenue dropped by 23% and consumer spot trading volume declined by 35%. Additionally, adjusted EBITDA stood at $303 million, compared to Q1 2025’s $929.9 million.

On the other hand, crypto trading volume saw a record 8.6% growth, with the company also revealing that it stored 12% of crypto assets worldwide. Stablecoin revenue rose to $305 million from 2025’s $274 million, and derivatives trading volume jumped by a notable 169% year-on-year.

CEO and co-founder Brian Armstrong commented:

“We executed well on what was in our control in Q1. We saw huge growth in derivatives trading volume, driven by our Everything Exchange. We hit a new all-time high in USDC held in Coinbase products and saw 10x year-over-year growth in stablecoin transactions on Base. We’re also leading on the next frontier, with over 90% of on-chain agentic stablecoin transaction volume happening on Base. We believe there will soon be billions of agents transacting, and they need rails that can keep up, and Coinbase is at the center of the agent economy.”

Looking at the prediction markets sector, Coinbase reached an annualized revenue run rate of $100 million, even though the platform launched in January 2026.

The earnings call took place shortly after the company announced that it would be cutting 14% of staff in order to focus more on AI and adjust the cost structure.
