Curacao Gaming Authority tightens crypto gambling rules
The Curacao Gaming Authority (CGA) has revealed a new policy plan for crypto gambling regulations, giving operators until mid-2027 to align their services with the updated requirements.
The new framework is set to be implemented through a gradual phaseout, aiming to fully restructure crypto deposits, withdrawals, and betting. Some parts of the new regulations have already come into effect, including bans on sanctioned wallets, prohibited crypto assets, and personal or UBO-linked wallets. Operators acting as exchanges or payment providers have also been ordered to stop immediately.
The CGA document states:
“The Licensee must independently ensure full compliance with all applicable registration, licensing, reporting, and other regulatory requirements in this respect. Any addition/removal of an accepted crypto asset, virtual asset service provider (e.g. exchange and wallet provider), or risk threshold requires documented risk assessment and appropriate sign-off.”
From September 2026 onward, operators will be required to conduct wallet screenings, submit a crypto compliance document stating their adoption strategy, segregate wallets, use blockchain analytics, and have audit-ready data.
At the same time, the CGA has urged operators to use fiat-supported stablecoins instead of other high-risk assets like meme tokens or wrapped assets, and follow the Financial Action Task Force’s (FATF) international standards.
Although the jurisdiction will still allow crypto transactions, the gambling regulator is aiming to improve the supervision of crypto use in the industry, as global markets are stressing consumer protection and money laundering risks connected to digital assets.
