Denmark’s gambling authority, the Spillemyndigheden, announced on August 3, 2026, that it had opened a new licensing window for land-based casino operators wishing to submit applications or renew existing 10-year licenses.
According to the regulatory authority, applications will remain open until November 3, 2026, and all interested companies must send in full documentation before the set date. The announcement marks the first official licensing window in 2026.
The Spillemyndigheden wrote:
“The Danish Gambling Authority opens up the issuance of permits for land-based casinos. According to Consolidated Act No. 1182 of 22 September 2025 on gambling, permits can be granted for the establishment and operation of land-based casinos. When deciding whether a license can be granted, the Danish Gambling Authority places emphasis on whether the applicant can be assumed to want to operate the land-based casino in a fully professional and financially sound manner.”
After submitting the applications, each potential licensee will be reviewed by the local municipality, police chief, the Ministry of Taxation, the Ministry of Business and Industry, and the Danish Maritime Authority in selected cases.
The gambling authority further noted that there are currently 7 licensed land-based casinos in Denmark, including venues in Copenhagen, Odense, Aarhus, Aalborg, Vejle, and Helsingør.
