Denmark reported a strong 2024 for the gambling industry, with DKK7.27 billion ($1.02 billion) revenues, which is an increase of 6.9% when compared to 2023.

The biggest contributor to the industry is online casinos, with DKK3.53 billion. Slots were by far the most popular online casino game, making up 78.2% of the total revenue. Blackjack and roulette come next with 6.7% and 6.4%, while the rest came from poker, bingo, and other games.

Sports betting

Sports betting remained the second-largest segment, with its performance recording a slight increase of 1.2% to DKK2.21 billion. Mobile betting took the crown, accounting for more than 70% of the total. Meanwhile, the land-based casino segment grew by 1.7%, generating DKK368 million. However, physical slot machines saw a small decline of 1.2%, bringing in DKK1.16 billion.

December closed the year on a positive note, with total gambling revenue rising 0.8% to DKK670 million. Online casinos continued to thrive, with revenues up to 13.6% to DKK347 million. However, sports betting saw a decline of 15.7%, and slot machine revenue dropped by 1.7%.

While the iGaming segment grew, some traditional gambling sectors faced slight declines. The numbers suggest that digital gambling is becoming the clear leader in Denmark’s market.
