DraftKings, online sports betting platform, initiates The State Council Funding program to support responsible wagering over the next 3 years.

The program aims to fund 35 local affiliate organizations within the United States that are involved in the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG).

The head of NCPG, Keith Whyte, noted:

“Local councils are serving the people who have suffered from problem wagering. DraftKings started an important campaign which reflects their awareness of the importance of the council’s mission”.

Each council has the right to apply for a handout of $15,000 in each year and use it independently. The fund is expected to serve for the under-threat wagering organizations and also for councils’ staff training.

The director of Responsible Gaming at DraftKings, Christine Thurmond, commented:

“DraftKings is loyal to responsible gambling within the partnership with local councils. I have multi-year experience working with the Massachusetts council, and I was in the first line to see the huge assistance they provided for the people impacted by problem gaming. Funding the councils, we aim to support them to extend their services or train their staff or whatever they need.”

This campaign is not the first one initiated by DraftKings. It has previously collaborated with Harvard Medical School, the International Center for Responsible Gaming and AGA.
