DraftKings hack affected $300k of customer funds

DraftKings has recently confirmed that a hack has managed to misappropriate a combined 300 thousand dollars from its customers.

The firm’s players had reported that quite a lot of money had been withdrawn from their accounts and sent to a newly linked unknown bank account. The hackers had bypassed the phone-based two-factor authentication of the accounts, as they were able to change the phone numbers linked to them, allowing them to make large withdrawals without the rightful account holder’s consent.

According to the co-founder and product and technology president of DraftKings, Paul Liberman, there was no evidence of the company’s servers being compromised. That means the hack was a result of compromised login information from other websites, allowing the hackers to easily target people reusing their passwords and usernames across multiple services.

Having identified around 300 thousand dollars of stolen customer funds, we are going to reimburse all affected users. To prevent such things from happening in the future, we strongly advise all our players to use completely unique login information for their DraftKings accounts and to never share any account details with any third parties.
