Dutch government names Michel Groothuizen as KSA head

With effect from the first of July, the Dutch Government has named Michel Groothuizen as the next head of the gaming regulator Kansspelautoriteit (KSA).

He will take over for René Jansen, who tendered his resignation in October of last year. Groothuizen has experience in the sphere of justice and security. He spent over four years as deputy director general and as a member of the Custodial Institutions Agency’s main board. He also served as general director of the Netherlands Institute for Forensic Psychiatry and head of policy at the Ministry of Justice and Security.

Groothuizen had a key role in the development of the gambling legislation in the Netherlands in 2012. He expressed his enthusiasm at being back in the gambling industry and emphasized his previous involvement in the establishment of the Gaming Authority and the gaming dossier.

The KSA now has a manager with vast administrative experience and pertinent subject expertise in Michel Groothuizen, according to deputy secretary general of the Ministry of Justice and Security Ric de Rooij. Groothuizen’s nomination was emphasized by De Rooij as being significant because of the shifting dynamics of gambling, which needs active attention and change. In this new position, De Rooij expressed excitement about working alongside Groothuizen.
