Elon Musk to testify in $1M election lottery lawsuit
On June 25, 2026, a federal court ordered Elon Musk to testify in 2 class-action lawsuits that have accused him of fraud and running an illegal lottery connected to $1 million giveaways during the 2024 presidential elections.
Filed by Arizona residents, the lawsuits claim that Musk and his political action committee America PAC misled citizens from seven states by promising daily $1 million random giveaways to registered voters. As a result, U.S. Magistrate Judge Susan Hightower made the ruling, further stating that Musk would have to sit down for a deposition as well.
The lawsuit argues that voters were urged to sign a petition and provide personal details for a chance to win the money in a lottery-like selection; however, the winners were allegedly not selected at random, as Musk had announced.
Elon Musk had stated:
“We’re going to be awarding a million dollars to — randomly — to people who have signed the petition, every day from now until the election.”
A lawyer representing Musk commented previously that the 18 winners were chosen because they could have been good spokespeople for America PAC.
Judge Hightower additionally recommended dismissing breach of contract claims, with U.S. District Judge Robert Pitman set to review Hightower’s recommendations and give the final ruling.
