Evoke’s 888 Romania’s license suspended for 48 hours
Evoke Plc‘s 888 Romania Limited had its gaming license suspended in Romania for forty-eight hours between June 14 and 16.
The issue arose from an inquiry by Romania’s gambling regulator, ONJN, concerning Evoke’s decision to block multiple user accounts. evoke suspended them for alleged betting integrity violations after receiving IBIA signals indicating suspicious bets. Users from Romania who wanted to use the company’s 888sport.ro portal were informed that the site was unavailable due to maintenance.
The notice read:
“Our website is currently closed, we apologize for any inconvenience caused. We are performing maintenance work to improve the user experience. Rediscover the magic on 888 starting 16-06-2024 at 00:00 AM. Thank you for your understanding. Team 888 Romania.”
The ONJN came to the conclusion that Evoke was required to notify appropriate state authorities about the blocked accounts. This is due to the fact that they would be in the greatest position to look into any potential violations of betting integrity.
Normally, an operator can look into these breaches for 10 days before reporting them to the state authorities. If a third-party supplier is performing the checks, this can be prolonged by five days; alternatively, if appropriate authorities request it, it can be extended until the investigation is finished.
The players’ accounts were reactivated and their earnings were transferred to them during the investigation.
