Evolution sues Light & Wonder
Evolution has filed a lawsuit against Light & Wonder, claiming that trade secrets related to its Lightning Roulette game have been improperly exploited.
One of the world’s largest live casino companies accused L&W of utilizing Evolution’s exclusive Lightning Roulette math files and payment structures for its RouletteX and PowerX games in a partially redacted Nevada District Court complaint filed last Tuesday, May 28. The files were purportedly taken during the parties’ negotiations when Evolution wanted to collaborate with L&W’s subsidiary LNW Gaming to release the game on a physical platform.
Evolution’s attorneys said:
“L&W’s conduct has been and is malicious, deliberate, and willful. “LNW Gaming induced Evolution into providing L&W with Evolution’s trade secrets for Lightning Roulette … under the auspices of entering into a partnership for developing physical Lightning Roulette game tables, but turned around and used those trade secrets to develop its own copycat products knowing that its acts would harm Evolution.”
Launched in 2018, Lightning Roulette is one of Evolution’s more popular live products. Evolution’s lawyers claimed that L&W’s activities had damaged Evolution’s brand, taken away its competitive edge, eroded its goodwill, resulted in missed wages, and maybe caused financial loss. In addition to damages and other legal fees, Evolution is requesting a ruling that L&W violated its patents and an injunction to stop future infringement.
Evolution is requesting compensatory, exemplary, and punitive damages, which might amount to twice or three times the actual losses.
