FanDuel earned $78.5m as DC’s exclusive digital platform

FanDuel’s short run as Washington DC’s exclusive digital sports betting platform ended with $23.2 million in June and nearly $10 million in early July.

In April, FanDuel replaced the GamBetDC app as the online sports betting platform in Washington, DC.

The DC Council approved a new, more competitive contract when the previous one with Intralot expired in July. Bettors placed 1.9 million bets during the three months that FanDuel was open citywide, as opposed to 1.3 million bets on GamBetDC’s platform between October 2023 and July 2024.

Compared to last year, when GamBetDC only managed $16.7 million in wagers from April to June and earned $1.5 million, these numbers represent a significant increase.

In June and July, GamBetDC saw mixed results:

  • Takings for June – $904,336.
  • Takings for July – $846,527.
  • Paid outs for June – $796,400.
  • Paid outs for July – $681,397.

At retail sportsbooks, BetMGM’s Nationals Field took nearly $3 million in bets but kept only 2.76%. Caesars at Capital One Arena had $2 million in bets with an 8.3% hold, and FanDuel at Audi Field had a 2.5% hold on $518,871 in bets.

By mid-July, BetMGM and Caesars expanded their digital betting options citywide, while all three could offer digital betting near their venues in June.
