France’s gambling regulator, the Autorité Nationale des Jeux (ANJ), has launched a review into Robinhood’s sponsorship deal with Ligue 1 club OGC Nice over the company’s prediction market activities.
Robinhood has been the club’s main shirt sponsor since July 2025; however, the investigation into the partnership began after the financial services company introduced prediction markets, including contracts tied to sports events, which have broadly been restricted by the ANJ. For context, France had blocked Polymarket over illegal gambling concerns in July 2026.
The ANJ commented:
“In France, these sites are not authorized and are considered illegal gambling sites.”
In response, Robinhood said its prediction market products are not marketed in France, with the company further adding that the OGC Nice partnership is limited to promoting services that it is legally allowed to offer in the French market.
The sponsorship agreement was signed before Robinhood launched its own prediction market exchange, Rothera, which began offering event contracts in the US earlier in 2026, and had already entered the prediction market sector through partnerships with third-party providers in 2025.
OGC Nice has also said the partnership covers “the promotion of the Robinhood brand” and services that can legally be promoted in France. The club added that the agreement does not cover prediction markets or other activities that aren’t authorized in the country.
