GamCare reports record number of calls in 2023

GamCare has recently reported that the UK’s National Gambling Helpline has received a record-breaking number of calls throughout 2023.

The gambling charity reported that the helpline received a total of just over 52 thousand calls and online messages, which represented a 24% activity increase for the initiative when compared to its performance in 2022. GamCare reported that August was the most active month for the helpline, while December had one of the highest monthly growth rates for calls and messages experienced by the program at just under 40% year-over-year.

The charity reported an increase in the number of calls from people who were concerned about the gambling behaviors of someone they knew, particularly during the holiday season at the end of the year. GamCare also took calls from people who reported struggling to watch TV due to the number of gambling advertisements they were presented with.

Moreover, the gambling charity reported that almost 7 thousand people were issued licenses of the Gamban blocking software throughout the year, which is a free toolkit that can be used by gambling enthusiasts to control their behaviors and protect themselves from various problems.

Lastly, GamCare mentioned that at the beginning of the year, it introduced a new way of contacting the helpline via WhatsApp, which helped a further 6 thousand people reach out for assistance.
