On July 13, 2026, the government of Gibraltar announced the adoption of an exclusive regulatory framework for prediction markets, becoming the first-ever jurisdiction to introduce a separate regime for the sector.

Called the “Prediction Market Regulations 2026,” the framework will allow prediction markets to operate under different rules than those included in the Gambling Act 2025. According to the new regulations, measures such as market integrity, financial crime prevention, player protection, and operational resilience will be at the center of the regime.

The dedicated rules come after the country gave approval to ADI Predictstreet to offer its event contracts in early March 2026, after which Gibraltar granted the second prediction market license to WagerWire in June 2026.

Gibraltar’s Minister of Justice, Nigel Feetham, shared:

“Today, Gibraltar becomes the first jurisdiction in the world to adopt a dedicated regulatory framework for prediction markets. This is more than a new regulatory framework; it is a statement of intent. My ambition is to position Gibraltar as a leading jurisdiction for responsible digital innovation and for the development of new markets underpinned by high regulatory standards.”

With the new regulations now in place, prediction market activity will no longer be treated as betting, gaming, or a lottery, and a separate supervisory authority will be appointed to manage Gibraltar’s licensed prediction market industry.

Additionally, the 24-page document has revealed that cryptocurrencies would also be integrated into the sector’s accepted methods of payment, and users wouldn’t be prevented from using digital assets to fund accounts, settle transactions, or make withdrawals. At the same time, markets tied to crime, war, death, and events with a high risk of insider trading will be banned.
