Google imposes prediction market ads ban in Ohio
Google has announced that it has banned advertisements of prediction markets in the state of Ohio, effective June 2, 2026.
From January 2026, Google revealed that all U.S. states except Nevada would be allowed to circulate prediction market ads; however, the latest update in the search engine’s advertising policy has added Ohio to the list of prohibited states.
Google wrote on its policy page:
“In June 2026, Google will update our Prediction markets policy in the United States to prohibit the advertisement of prediction markets contracts and related products ads in Ohio. Consequently, advertising of prediction markets and related products in Ohio is prohibited effective June 2, 2026.”
Google still allows two types of entities to promote prediction market ads, which include CFTC-registered Designated Contract Markets and brokerages authorized by the National Futures Association. In both cases, the entities have to hold Google certifications.
It was also revealed that Ohio gaming regulators weren’t notified of the ban beforehand, according to a statement obtained by Gambling Insider.
Andromeda Morrison, OCCC interim executive director, shared:
“The Ohio Casino Control Commission did not solicit any particular action from Google, but applauds Google for its efforts to ensure that marketing targeting Ohioans fully complies with Ohio law.”
The advertisement ban comes at a time when Ohio is actively fighting against prediction market platforms, as the state had sent a cease-and-desist order to Kalshi, Crypto.com, and Robinhood back in April 2025.
