Zoltán Sólyom has taken over as chief executive officer of Szerencsejáték Zrt., Hungary’s state-owned lottery and betting company, after being appointed by Finance Minister András Kármán.

Kármán announced the move on Facebook on October 27, 2026, the day Sólyom started. Sólyom spent 1990 to 1997 at insurer Generali, where he became operational director, and then founded corporate insurance advisory firm Palladium Consulting. Since August, he has sat on the supervisory boards of Szerencsejáték and the state investment company Corvinus Nemzetközi Befektetési Zrt.

The minister has accused the previous leadership of channeling taxpayer money to companies close to the former Fidesz government without transparency, although he has not set out specific payments. He removed former chairman and chief executive Zoltán Guller on June 30, after which economic director Balázs Attila Pozsgai ran the company on an acting basis.

In July, Kármán named Marcell Olajos as board chairman, meaning the chair and chief executive roles that Guller held together are now split. Zoltán Horváth also joined the board, and four directors were recalled.

Szerencsejáték reported net revenue of HUF 1,310.9 billion (about $4 billion) and after-tax profit of HUF 49.1 billion (about $150 million) for 2025. The company holds exclusive rights to number lotteries and several forms of betting under Hungary’s Gambling Act.
