India to ban social media promotions of illegal gambling

The Indian government has decided to take serious actions to combat illegal gambling in the country.

India’s gambling regulations are in chaos, resulting in a booming black market, especially for online casinos. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) is turning its attention to social media influencers who promote these illegal gambling sites. They not only promote those sites but also don’t include any kind of information on responsible gambling.

Despite launching an immediate legal action, the MIB decided to give a chance to influencers to stop those actions by sending them warnings on their YouTube or Instagram accounts. MIB aims to make it clear that the promotion of illegal websites is itself an illegal action that violates Indian law. In case of ignoring the warnings, promoters will receive fines or even end up in jail.

Moreover, the government is urging social media platforms to take more responsibility in monitoring and removing illegal gambling content. They want these platforms to help users recognize the dangers of gambling addiction and promote safer practices.

The Tamil Nadu Online Gaming Authority will also be joining this challenge.
