Interview with Hannah Cutajar – Head of Gaming at Casino.org

The online casino market has always been subject to rapid change, thanks to technological innovations and rising consumer demand. The sheer number of platforms and products available, coupled with a complex legal landscape, may leave players feeling confused and unsure how to make the most of their pastime. AffPapa spoke to Casino.org’s Head of Gaming, Hannah Cutajar, to find out how it is leveling the playing field for consumers.

Yeva: Hi Hannah, tell me a bit about yourself. How did you find yourself at Casino.org?

I’ve been in this industry for about seven years now, since starting as a Content Manager at Time2Play in 2019. I joined Casino.org in 2023, and haven’t looked back since. Over my career, I’ve learnt so much about sports betting, online casinos, and the wider industry. I love how diverse my career has been so far; From designing components for sites and carrying out user research, to compiling product and platform reviews. There’s always something interesting happening.

I’ve worked with some of the biggest brands in the industry and across twelve geographical markets. Something I’m proud of is being named “Rising Star Idol of the Year” at the 2022 iGaming IDOL Awards. All of that is to say, I know my way around the industry, and I’m delighted that I now get to share that knowledge with players.

Yeva: Why do you think that what Casino.org does is important?

At Casino.org we’re seeing exactly how consumers respond to a rapidly evolving gambling landscape. Players can often feel out of the loop when it comes to changes in legislation, which ultimately puts them on thebackfoot. We want to address that all too common feeling of confusion. Playing at online casinos should be fun, safe, and fair. That’s why empowering our readers with the right guidance to achieve that aim feels so great.

It’s so important that our readers are given the most accurate and up-to-date information possible. I always ask my team to think about it like this: “What do you want to know? Put yourself in the shoes of players. What’s most interesting to them? What is that information that would actually be really helpful to have?” Luckily, that’s simple for our writers as they enjoy gaming at online casinos in their downtime too.

Yeva: How do you go about creating high-quality content for readers? Could you tell me a little about your processes and what goes into producing all those guides and reviews?

At Casino.org we have a 25-step process that we use to create our reviews. That ensures that we don’t miss a thing, that all our content is thorough and impartial. Our checklists go through issues like security, software availability, bonuses and promotions, how transactions are handled, customer care, and more. At this point, it’s a tried and tested method that we’ve honed down to a fine art. It’s really important to us that our reviews and guides are easy to understand and give readers an honest insight into what they’re reading about.

As well as this, we’re a team, and so, we value communication. Some matters are always going to be a bit subjective. For instance, game design is often a matter of personal preference, so that’s where it helps to find out what my colleagues think and also what players themselves think too. Places like Reddit and Trustpilot are great for getting an idea of which casinos and games are generating buzz.

If I’m reviewing a platform or a new game, I always like to try it out for myself. I test aspects like deposit and withdrawal processes, go through the terms and conditions, check out the bonuses, and, of course, play some games. If a casino or game tested by Casino.org’s expert team doesn’t make the grade, we make sure to let our readers know that and explain why. After all, it’s just as important to know which platforms to avoid aswhich are worth visiting.

Yeva: How do you make sure that you’re getting the most accurate and relevant information to readers? The legal status of online casinos varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, and that’s a picture that is changing quickly.

We indeed need to keep our finger on the pulse, and the pace at which regulations are changing can make that tricky. I like to stay up to date with the latest news and current trends in the industry, so I make sure to keep an eye on trusted publications like SBC Americas and EGR Global. Staying up to date is something we work on as a team, which is great. If one of us learns a useful tidbit of information, you can be sure it’ll be shared! There’s always plenty of cross-pollination and sharing of information.

Of course, there is a very real and thought-out structure behind how we stay organized and on top of industry developments. Members of our team are allocated to particular jurisdictions, so they can really hone their expertise and convey the right information to readers.

Yeva: Looking to the future, how well is Casino.org adapted to move with the times and stay relevant to readers?

That’s a question that will always be at the forefront of our minds, but I think our flexibility and ability to respond quickly to industry developments are real assets. Take a look at the recent acquisition of Legend, our parent group, by Genius Sports. It’s something that has been a bit misunderstood by the markets, and I think that’s a problem that a lot of affiliate businesses have to grapple with. Legend’s ability to recognize engagement patterns and translate intent into action is hugely valuable and shows the real relevance of what we do.

Genius Sports’ faith in us only further underscores the value in what we are doing. The record $1.2 billion deal is owed to the loyalty of our audiences, as well as Legend’s technology and behavioral intelligence. It’s an exciting time for my team and me, and we’re really looking forward to being part of Genius Sports. This extra backing is a real confidence boost that will give us even greater access to tools and resources, enabling us to keep doing what we do best: offer our readers the best advice on all things gambling.
