Kalshi adds AI selfie verification and parent access portal
Kalshi has revealed plans to add a new AI-powered verification system and a parental portal in an effort to restrict underage access.
The development marks an important technological advancement in player authentication, as it will use a dual-verification system combining document validation and biometric confirmation.
Kalshi CEO Tarek Mansour stressed that the system is designed to give families more transparency into the platform, adding that parents will be able to submit identification even if they don’t have a Kalshi account.
Mansour stated:
“We are launching a portal for parents to basically submit their identification, even if they don’t want to be users of Kalshi, to see if someone is using it. Because then they can see if their children are using their ID and police it.”
Through the feature, parents will get to see whether someone has used their email, date of birth, phone number, or Social Security number to create an account.
Additionally, a selfie requirement will be added in the account registration process, with uploaded photos evaluated by AI to detect the identity of the applicant.
Mansour added:
“We’re launching this kind of notion of family accounts, where people can track each other’s activity. How do we create a sort of accountability structure amongst friends and families for people to be like, ‘Hey, you might be doing a little too much here.’ We want this to be a tool for good, not a tool for excessive behaviors.”
The additions come at a time when regulatory criticism against prediction markets is rising, as Kalshi is trying to create new standards for preventing underage participation.
