Kalshi to offer prediction market in Brazil in 2026
Co-founder of prediction market platform Kalshi, Luana Lopes Lara, announced that the company is looking for possible expansion opportunities into Brazil in 2026.
Lopes Lara, who is Brazilian, believes her home country could be the next strategic expansion point for Kalshi, as the company’s third round of fundraising gave it an $11 billion valuation in 2025.
Lopes Lara said:
“One of the first things we announced after the round was our plan to expand internationally. Brazil means a lot to me. I really want us to operate there. We’re still studying how to do it, but I hope we can announce something in early 2026.”
Brazil launched its regulated online betting market in 2025, and Lopes Lara argues there’s nothing like the Kalshi platform at the moment in Brazil.
Brazil’s betting regulator, the Secretariat of Prizes and Bets (SPA), and the Brazilian Securities Commission haven’t yet made any comments regarding Kalshi’s expansion plans into the country; however, the product proved to be very controversial in the US market, with various court cases against state regulators.
Currently, the SPA is focusing on strengthening the financial safety of the betting sector in Brazil, which makes it unlikely that the regulator will be supportive of Kalshi’s expansion plans.
The Brazilian government is also taking steps to increase the tax burden on gambling operators. Because prediction markets are usually classified outside of this framework, Kalshi’s entry faces potential backlash and resistance.
